Mercedes-Benz Start Up – LG Fashion Week

Kicking off off the evening shows was the Mercedes-Benz Start Up, which showcased 5 Canadian Designers, one which would be announced as the winner.  What do the winning designer get? A fully sponsored and produced show in next season’s  schedule, a mentorship with the industry’s big boys and a spread in FASHION magazine!  Judging this competition was head of Mercedes Canada, and Victoria’s Secret Model Jessica Stam.

The Start Up line up consisted of Cassie Dee, Travis Taddeo, Triarchy, Unttld, & Martin Lim.

Cassie Dee collection was inspired from a Canadian Road Trip.  She used beautiful prints, bold colors – like burnt oranges mixed with crisp whites, creams and army greens.

Travis Taddeo was probably one of my favorite collections that showcased on Tuesday!  His feather minis, dresses and vests were a hit, along with the loose fitted Bermuda shorts – great comfy fashionable look for Spring/Summer!

Triarchy the denim collections were to die for! I really liked the belted denim dress and the denim pencil skirt with shirt that was accessorized with a floppy hat.  I’ve heard Triarchy’s is amazing quality – they don’t fade or stretch out of shape!

Unttld – I must say these two guys have a great sense of humor! I loved how they used the opposites for each piece – constructed then deconstructed, white and black, sheer and solid. It gave their collections a unique twist mixing linen with crochet, whites looked perfectly in place yet blacks stood out like a sore thumb!

Martin Lim – WINNER of the Mercedes-Benz Start Up.  When I saw Martin Lim’s collection I knew right away that they were going to rock it on the runway!! Bold bright colors – used in a color blocking pattern mixed with creams and blacks, ruffled tops, pleated dresses, the collection was impeccable! The minute Martin & Lim’s collection hit the runway I knew it was going to be a huge success!
